Audi R8 Spyder
In coupe form it’s astonishing. In convertible form it’d be ten-fold astonishing. This awesome supercar has been praised by many professional drivers and motoring journalists around the world since it was released sporting a 4.2-litre V8 in 2007.
Audi has manufactured with great precision an updated engine, which outputs a whopping 386kW, and slotted it into the new carbon fibre composite Audi Space Frame convertible chassis. Even though convertibles are known to lose fundamental rigidity, Audi has cured this by adding substantial reinforcements as well as safety reinforcements in the bulkhead behind the cabin with integrated roll over protection.
Even with the reinforcements, the car managed to put on just six extra kilograms over the coupe version. This was achieved through the use of liberal carbon fibre and aluminium use. Weighing in at 1720kg in manual form, and with 530Nm of torque on board, the car will shift from 0-100km/h in just 4.1 seconds and go on to a top speed of 331km/h.
Innovative features include a seatbelt microphone hands-free system, which makes open-top phone calls possible, even with the increased wind noise. The car also features a Bang & Olufsen in-car entertainment system incorporating Audi’s MMI media interface with top end street navigation.
